Ahhhh,

Yes, I arrived at that state about a year ago and found the whole walking experience even more rewarding than before.

Still, when I hear an unknown birdsong and can't identify it with a bird I'd love to know what I should be looking for.

To be honest Loren, at the moment it feels like a success not because I can identify many birds from their songs (I can't), but because I'm making a real effort to listen to the birdsong. I'm enjoying the variety of the sounds; the fact that I'm beginning to recognise some songs; and the fact that every now and again I hear something completely different and occasionally that alerts me to the presence of birds that I might not otherwise have seen.
I shall definitely keep you informed - I have a feeling that I shall be wittering on about Birdsong for some time to come.

Keep us informed on how that "learn birdsong" project goes. If you're successful I might give it another shot, but I'm much better at spotting birds than I am at identifying them through their songs.
