Crianlarich Weekend

Two days of snow, hail, sunny spells, rivers in spate, and mountain walks.

Saturday started promisingly with blue skies and even Ben More clear of cloud.

After a drive down Glen Lochy I parked in a forestry commission car park called Strone Hill. Tucked away in the conifer plantation was an oak wood. The highlight of the short walk I had there was this waterfall on the River Lochy.

I planned to walk up Glen Strae, but was led astray by the Allt Dhoirrean…

…and then by another stream that led me into Coire na Garbhlaich on Beinn Eunaich.

I climbed toward the ridge on the shoulder to the right of the coire, but as the weather deteriorated into snow driven by fierce winds, I eventually turned back.

Today I climbed Beinn Udlaidh with Matt, Jim and George. There were great views across Rannoch Moor on the way up.

Higher up, there were occasional views but much of the time we were in and out of the cloud, and it snowed quite heavily. It was too cold to take gloves off for photos.
