Return of the Hedgehog

S/he was back today, sadly looking pretty ill, slumped on the slabs, letting us approach without trying to move away. Angela had the bright idea of putting out some cat food, which the Hedgehog soon polished off and then when it started to rain, moved away looking for shelter. It did seem to still be struggling with one of its legs.

  1. Well, now you’ve done it. Utterly torn at my heartstrings. Do you want me to consult my book “The Care and Feeding of Orphans in the Wild”? Some people have friends in high places but I have ones in animal rehab, and I’d be happy to check with them. Just let me know what I can do, if anything.

Once a baby raccoon trapped in the garage came scampering out when I opened the garage door and ran up my leg to my shoulder, where it nestled in my neck. We were both panicked, since I figured surely it must have rabies or something to have done such an odd thing. But my maternal instinct set in and I drove it to the nearest wild animal rehabilitation center, where they cared for it until it could be safely released into the wild. The kids were about the age of yours and they thought it was all just a thrill.

And it truly was quite the adventure. Good luck with your little fellow.

Oh no! I hope the hedgehog will be alright. I agree with the above commenter; it might be best to take it to a wildlife rehabilitation center if it seems ill or injured.

On a lighter note, that picture is really cool!

I hope that good wishes delivered via the internet can help! We haven’t seen him since we fed him. It certainly seemed to perk him up. We’re keeping our fingers crossed.

  4. Perhaps it was struck by an automobile or something. I hope it recovers and gets back to its normal self.

Patty and I will be celebrating 53 years of marriage on July 12th. Think of it as a long-term relationship.

I have invited bloggers to offer suggestions on a gift for me to give Patty and the list would not be complete without your ideas.
