TBH recently declared herself to be ‘fed up with Whitbarrow’. I suppose we have climbed it quite a few times in recent years, but I’m struggling to imagine getting tired of that prospect.
On the Sunday after our TMTCH gig, we needed something reasonably local and reasonably short because the forecast suggested that things were going to get very wet later in the day. They did.
Whitbarrow, then was ideal on both counts.
Early sunshine soon gave way to much greyer, gloomy skies.
By the time we were off the hill by Witherslack Hall there were a few drops of moisture in the air.
We almost made it back, but somewhere around Beck Head it began to absolutely chuck it down.
Not to worry, we’d got out again, and had a fabulous weekend together.
I keep meaning to get up Whitbarrow. having seen it from Scout Scar and Arnside Knott and reading your reports of ventures up there. Where’s the best place to park up?
There’s loads of parking where the Beck Head road comes off the A590 on the crossroads on the old road SD 452 839. Alternatively, off the road near Witherslack Hall, they let you park in a little car park down a track SD 437 859. There’s only about 4 spaces there, but I don’t think many people know about it.
Thanks for that. I’ll have to get up there soon – if it ever stops raining 😂
Nice to see people out in shorts, have been out today and walked in t shirt all the way around, maybe, just maybe there’s a sight of some fairer weather to start matching this walk
Well, given that we got drenched at the end of this walk, I would say the weather is still very similar – okay for an hour or two, but eventually it will rain again!
I just love the English countryside. Such a shame it is so expensive to visit. Our dollar goes nowhere. We have warm sunshine at the moment, but a 4 inch deluge is expected tomorrow.
Four inches! Wow, that really is a deluge. Interesting that the dollar is weak, our experience is that the pound is weak too – our spending money abroad doesn’t seem to go very far at all.
1 Aus dollar gets us 0.51 pound stirling. It has been is rarely higher for years.!
Bored with Whitbarrow – can’t imagine that either. A fabulous part of the Lakes and long May it remain little known
Quite – on both counts.
